Comment The OED has cites for "areology" from 1881, but no cites for areologist. Michael Quinion submitted a 1992 cite from Kim Stanley Robinson's "Red Mars". Sam Clark submitted a cite from a reprint of Frederik Pohl's "Man Plus"; Mike Christie verified the cite in the 1976 original magazine appearance. Ralf Brown submitted a cite from Greg Bear's "Moving Mars"; Mike Christie verified the cite in the 1993 first edition.
